Introducing the CIRCuiTSâ„¢ Supervisor Training Programme

Cognitive difficulties are among the most persistent and yet under-addressed barriers to recovery in mental health. For people living with psychosis and a range of other mental health conditions, problems with memory, attention, and executive function can make everyday life profoundly challenging — affecting relationships, self-care, employment, and independence. Despite this, access to evidence-based therapies that directly target cognition remains limited in many clinical settings.


That is something the team behind CIRCuiTS™ (Computerised Interactive Remediation of Cognition and Thinking Skills) is working to change — and the launch of their dedicated Supervisor Training Programme represents an important step forward.


Investing in Supervision


For any therapeutic approach to become truly embedded in routine clinical practice, it needs more than trained practitioners — it needs skilled supervisors who can support, develop, and guide those practitioners over time. Without quality supervision, even experienced therapists can drift from the model, struggle with complex cases, or lose confidence in their skills.


This is the gap that the CIRCuiTSâ„¢ Supervisor Training Programme is designed to fill. When clinical services can train and maintain their own supervisors, they can offer sustainable Cognitive Remediation Therapy.


The Supervisor Training Programme is intended for experienced CIRCuiTSâ„¢ therapists who are ready to take the next step in their professional development. The programme supports trainees in identifying their training needs and develop a personalised training plan with the support of the CIRCuiTSâ„¢ team.


This collaborative, individualised approach ensures trainees can make a broader commitment — one shared by the entire CIRCuiTS™ community — to making high-quality Cognitive Remediation Therapy available to more people, in more places, more sustainably.

Course Components



The programme is structured around four interconnected areas of competency development: academic, clinical, leadership, and evaluation. Rather than being treated as separate silos, these are woven together throughout training to reflect the reality of what expert supervision looks like in practice.


Trainees are expected to develop an in-depth, critically appraised understanding of the CRT evidence base and to make clear, meaningful links between what the research says and what happens in the therapy room.


At the heart of the programme is clinical supervision itself. Trainees learn to support supervisees to work on-model, offering guidance for complex clinical presentations with both systematic thinking and creative problem-solving. Over the course of the programme, trainees are supported to deepen their understanding of the principles and techniques of Cognitive Remediation, explore advanced strategies for clinical implementation, and refine their ability to mentor and guide therapists in delivering high-quality therapy.


The programme includes leadership skills, equipping trainees to help shape the services and systems within which Cognitive Remediation Therapy is delivered.


Evaluation


Assessment is designed to be practical, reflective, and directly connected to real clinical work with a mixture of clinical-academic and reflective assignments alongside structured opportunities to plan, reflect, and address any issues as they arise with the CIRCuiTSâ„¢ team.
